Casper Police Department Launches 2026 Area Initiative Project to Proactively Strengthen Neighborhood Safety
Casper, Wyoming (January 12, 2026) – The Casper Police Department is launching a new community-focused effort designed to proactively strengthen neighborhood safety by working closely with residents to identify and address area-specific concerns.
The 2026 Area Initiative Project assigns a Casper Police lieutenant or pair of sergeants to each of the city’s six geographic areas. These commanders will take a focused, hands-on approach to understanding safety conditions in their assigned area and working directly with residents, officers, and community partners to address concerns that matter most locally.
Casper is widely recognized as a safe and strong community. This project is part of CPD’s continued effort to be forward-thinking and intentional in preserving that standard for the future. By creating structured opportunities for engagement, the department aims to ensure neighborhood voices help shape how public safety efforts are prioritized and delivered.
The Area Initiative Project is structured as a 12-month effort in each area. Residents can expect quarterly meetings that begin with listening and collaboration, followed by project development, progress updates, and a review of outcomes. This approach allows CPD and residents to work together over time toward meaningful, lasting improvements.
As part of the Area Initiative Project, CPD will:
- Share area-specific public safety information to support informed discussions
- Work alongside residents to identify neighborhood safety priorities
- Develop one focused safety improvement effort per area
- Provide ongoing updates so residents can see progress and outcomes
This approach allows the department to remain proactive, responsive, and accountable while focusing resources where they can have the greatest impact.
CPD will host a series of public meetings later this month to introduce the project and begin the first round of collaboration. Each meeting will focus on a specific area of the city and will include a brief overview of local information, followed by an opportunity for residents to share input and discuss priorities.
All meetings will be held at the Ford Wyoming Center, upstairs meeting rooms, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
Meeting Schedule:
- Wednesday, January 28
Area 5 and Area 6 - Thursday, January 29
Area 1 and Area 2 - Friday, January 30
Area 3 and Area 4
Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting that corresponds with the area in which they live or work.
“Our officers live and serve in this community, and they care deeply about protecting what makes Casper a great place to live,” said Chief of Police Shane Chaney. “The Area Initiative Project reflects our commitment to staying engaged, being proactive, and working together with residents to keep Casper safe for generations to come.”
Additional information about area boundaries, future meetings, and project updates will be shared as the initiative continues.
